The original Cape Dory Owners Association was formed in the late 1960s or early 1970s by the Cape Dory company. When the Cape Dory Company went out of business, various Cape Dory groups evolved. The current Cape Dory Sailboat Owners Association (CDSOA) was formed about 25 years ago. It is the owner and sponsor of this website. Our purpose is to enhance social enjoyment and good fellowship among owners and interested parties of Cape Dory and Robinhood sail and power boats and to advance the sport of yachting and the individual and family enjoyment thereof and to promote the educational and technical interests of the membership. All interested individuals are welcome in the association- regardless of whether they own a Cape Dory or Robinhood boat.

The national organization is led by Commodore Carl Thunberg, Secretary/Treasurer John Arsenault, Information Officer Fred Mueller and Director at Large John Stone.

CDSOA is comprised of five fleets: Carolinas, Chesapeake, Northeast, Southeast, and a General Fleet, which is comprised of members who are not in a regional fleet. The Carolina Fleet captain is John Stone. The Chesapeake Fleet captain is John Arsenault. The Northeast fleet captain is Dave Hemenway and its treasurer is Doug Jesseman. The Southeast Fleet captain is Dave Eaton. The General Fleet does not currently have a Fleet captain.
